The Little Things Matter — Why I Love Photographing Wedding Details

When you think about your wedding photos, your mind probably goes straight to the big, emotional moments — your vows, your first kiss, your first dance. And yes, those are everything. But there’s something incredibly special about the little details that quietly help tell the full story of your day.

I’m talking about the invitation suite you spent hours picking out, the perfume you wore that’ll always remind you of this day, the rings, the heirlooms, the florals, your shoes, your handwritten vows — all the small, beautiful pieces that came together to create the vibe and aesthetic of your wedding.

As your photographer, I take time at the beginning of your day to style and capture these moments with intention. They’re not just pretty pictures (though yes, they’re gorgeous) — they’re memory anchors. One day, when the flowers have wilted and the dress is packed away, your detail photos will remind you of the atmosphere, the thought you put into every little piece, and how your day felt.

A few tips for dreamy detail shots:

    •    Have your items ready in one place: rings, jewelry, perfume, vows, shoes, invitations, and any special keepsakes.

    •    Ask your florist for a few loose blooms — they make your flatlays extra stunning.

    •    Don’t stress about having “enough.” Even a few meaningful pieces are more than enough to tell your story beautifully.

So yes, I’ll absolutely be there for the big emotional moments — but I’ll also be there, quietly documenting the tiny ones that matter just as much.

Here’s a list of items you can gather in a small box or bag and have waiting for me when I arrive — bonus points if you hand them to a bridesmaid or someone I can grab them from easily!

For the Bride:

    •    Invitation suite (full set, plus envelopes)

    •    Rings (all three: engagement + both wedding bands)

    •    Jewelry (earrings, necklace, bracelet, etc.)

    •    Perfume bottle

    •    Shoes

    •    Veil or hairpiece

    •    Vow books or letters or notes

    •    Dress hanger (a wooden or custom one is great!)

    •    Any heirlooms (like grandma’s brooch or your mom’s handkerchief)

    •    Loose florals or petals from your florist (ask them ahead of time!)

For the Groom (optional but beautiful to include):

    •    Tie or bowtie

    •    Watch or cufflinks

    •    Cologne

    •    Shoes

    •    Boutonnière

    •    Handwritten note or vow book

    •    Any meaningful accessories (flask, pins, tie clip, cigar, etc.)

You don’t need everything on this list — just what feels meaningful to you. I’ll use what you have and style it all with care, creativity, and a whole lot of love.
